"That heartless woman… She attended an opening ceremony while her own daughter's life was at stake?" Zayn shouted angrily through clenched teeth.
Benard froze as he wasn't expecting him to get so furious.
Layon happened to overhear the conversation as he came into the ward and defended Carla. "Maybe she doesn't know about Venus's condition…"
"I told her about it myself, so there's no way she wouldn't know!" Zayn had rage written all over his face.
"Um… Maybe she has her reasons…" Layon said with a troubled expression.
"Yeah! The South Sea project cost Lierger Corporation hundreds of billions, and a single problem could easily affect the company's entire operation! It's perfectly understandable for Ms. Lierger to take care of it. Maybe she'll come and see Venus after she's done with the ceremony!" Selena signed.
"Yeah, that's right! There's no way she wouldn't care about her own daughter! Wait… Could it be that she hasn't regained her memories? Or perhaps, the motherly side of her has yet to awaken?" Layon added.
"I don't think that's the case… I remember her being very gentle with her kids at Seacrest Restaurant, so it's obvious that she loves them dearly. She's probably just in a difficult position due to the feud between the Nachts and the Liergers." Selena signed.
"All right, that's enough. No need to defend that woman…" The look on Zayn's face turned gloomy as he continued, "She did nothing when Daemon poisoned Randy today. Had I not stopped him in time: Randy would've suffered the same fate as Venus."
"I can't believe Daemon would be so cruel as to poison a child! Do you think he's the one who poisoned Venus too?" Layon exclaimed angrily.
"Who else could it be?" Zayn asked.
"It's definitely him then! Karma will come for him sooner or later!" Layon said.
"Yeah!" Selena signed in agreement.
Zayn narrowed his eyes and growled through clenched teeth, "I won't let him get away with this! Anyone who dares poison my children shall die a horrible death!"
A look of surprise flashed in Selena's eyes when she heard that, but she was quick to regain her composure and signed, "Don't do anything rash, Zayn! Daemon is no pushover, so you need to stay calm…"
"That's right. You need to strategize and be smart about it!" Layon advised.
Zayn turned to look at Benard and asked, "Well? What happened after that? Did they launch the South Sea project?"
"No, a prosecutor showed up at the last second with an official document and declared that the project had to be halted. He said something about it being incredibly detrimental to the marine life in the area, " Benard replied.
Layon was delighted. "Really? The project has been halted?"
Benard nodded. "Yes. I believe Mr. Lierger and Ms. Lierger are currently stressing themselves out trying to figure out a solution."
"With an official document ordering for a halt in front of the press, there's no way they can save the project now! Daemon may be cruel and proficient at things like poisoning people, but he's no match for me when it comes to business strategies!" Zayn said with a sarcastic sneer.
Layon looked happier than everyone around him. "Of course! I told you, you're a one-of-a-kind genius when it comes to business affairs! No one could possibly best you in this field!"
"We mustn't let our guard down, though. Mr. Lierger has tons of nasty tricks up his sleeve, so god knows what he'll do next. You must be careful, Zayn." Selena signed.
Zayn held her hand and said, "Yeah, I know. Thank you for helping Venus out and being such a considerate person."
Selena found herself blushing when she felt the warmth of his hand on hers.
