Chapter 76 - Seventy six

After they had lunch, his father-in-law, Davis was ready to go, neatly dressed and all.

"Chris, hurry up let's go. Get into our new car so we can go to Antique street. There's a new white dynasty official kiln vase in the store. I want to go have a look!", He said to Chris.

"But dad, remember we aren't having much money in the house, and you're going to the antique again. Isn't that a bit too extravagant?", Chris tried to persuade his father-in-law.

Davis doesn't know how to make money, but is constantly dreaming of living big. When he has nothing to do he shops at the antique street. He wants to have a taste of what the rich life he dreamt of feels like, but in the past he hadn't really gotten much of that.

He once stopped, but recently, the habit has been rekindled.

When he heard what Chris said, he got provoked, "Don't you repeat that rubbish again, just take me there!", He said to Chris.

Chris had no choice but to go with what he had said. So he had to be Davis's driver to the antique street.

Antique street is very popular in the Hillsprings. It has a place in the history of the city. It is also well know in the country. Dealers of antique and shoppers through out the country come here.

The local tourism department of the city made use of this opportunity to renovate it and make it a tourist attraction.

When they arrived at Antique street, Davis got down from the car and went directly to an antique shop, explaining to the receptionist there that he had an appointment. It was normal for some persons to be invited to a VIP room to see goods.

Chris was about to follow him in when Davis turned back and said, "Don't come in with me, you won't understand what goes on in here. Just wait for me here at the door", Davis said.

Chris replied with a nod, "I am aware dad", he added.

With his hands crossed behind his back, Davis followed the staff to the VIP room, while Chris sat at the lounge area.

Shortly after, Chris heard a crisp sound from the VIP room.

And shortly after, his father-in-law came out panicking.

"It's finished, it's finished, I am done for!", he muttered panicking.

On seeing this, Chris quickly got up, walked towards Davis as he looked behind him trying to find out what made him panick. He observed that a tall thin ceramic bottle fell and shattered along with some other ceramics on the floor.

But amidst the fragments, he could see that one of the broken ceramic on the floor was the white dynasty vase his father-in-law wanted to see.

When he was a child, he stayed in the Arthur vIlla, he also knew quite alot. And so could tell from a mere view that it was a genuine antique, and it could be sold for several millions in the market.

Davis had brought upon himself a big problem.

In the VIP room, a man seemingly in his middle-ages said with a dark face, "Mr. Bromwick! You broke our Jade vase worth over 5 million!"

The man who spoke was Lan Yuma, the manager of Jintang.

On hearing that, Davis pulled Chris over, and in panic said, "This is my wealthy son-in-law, he has so much money! You talking about 5 million, please! Even 50 is too small, he can pay it all without a problem. Talk to him, I have somewhere to go right now!"

When he was done talking, he pushed Chris forward and ran out.

Chris was out of words, his father-in-law is so shameless, this was clearly an attempt to make him a scapegoat!

Lan Yuma looked at Chris and asked, "So Mr! A total 5.38 million is needed to pay for what your dad broke. So are you transferring or swiping your card?"

Chris opened his hands and said, "But I have no money!"

Not that Chris couldn't afford it, he just wanted his father-in-law to learn a lesson, so he wouldn't come to the Antique street so frequently.

"What do you mean no money?", Lan Yuma said as he gnashed his teeth.

"You destroyed our most valuable item, do you really think you can just walk out of here without paying any money? You think you hide under your good english!", he said to Chris.

"I am not trying to hide under anything, I really don't have money. And besides, I wasn't the one that destroyed your precious vase, so why should pay?", Chris said helplessly.
