Nora's words put the entire family in shock, they exclaimed at random.
They all thought she had lost her mind.
Since she was up, and everyone's attention has been gotten, apart from trying and failing she had no other option now.
Failure is certain! The Axel Group is the biggest company in the Hillsprings, and the Bromwick family is nothing more than a spec of insignificant dust to it! Failure awaits who ever takes up such a challenge.
Aaron couldn't hold back his mock full thoughts, "Sister Nora, do you actually think you get this contract?", he asked.
Linda, Aaron and Nora's sister sneered immediately, "Sister! Take a look at yourself and then the Axel Group, do the comparison. You are about to make a very silly and irrational mistake that will lead to the disgrace of this family!", Linda added, "Linda speaks the truth! If Nora is thrown out of the Axel Group, the Bromwick family will be laughed at by all in the Hillsprings!", some added.
On hearing this, Nora's face swole red, she felt highly embarrassed.
Ever since she got married to Chris, her status in the family has dropped drastically, no one saw her as important, they snubbed and ignored her. Not only did they ignore her they did same to her parents.
She saw sealing the contract with the Axel Group as an opportunity to raise her status in the family. Especially her parents, she wanted to make them proud.
But after seeing everything, and hearing her siblings remarks, she decided to withdraw.
She gave a stern look to Chris, regretting why she listened to his bewitching words. She shouldn't have said a word if not for him.
On hearing and seeing what was going on, old Mrs. Bromwick grew upset.
The challenge was up and no one dared to attempt. Nora finally took a bold step and stood up to take it, and her family members mocked her.
Even though Mrs. Bromwick did not like Nora, she was glad she was bold enough to attempt taking up the challenge to elevate her family's status, unlike the rest timid members of the family.
Especially her beloved Aaron! He really let her down.
For this, Mrs. Bromwick's attitude towards Chris's wife, Nora changed drastically.
"Since you cowards can't do it, shut up! Nora's going to be the one to handle the contract with the Axel Group", she said.
"Don't worry grandma, I'll try my very best", Nora said sheepishly.
Immediately, Aaron exhaled heavily from his nose and sneered coldly, "What's the point of trying when we all know you are going to fail after everything, and bring shame to the Bromwick family!", he added.
Chris sneered, "Aaron, why being so pessimistic about this? Is that how strongly you believe that the Bromwick family is not qualified to collaborate with the Axel Group?", Chris said.
Aaron never thought Chris, the loser would have the balls to speak during the family meeting, especially in the confident manner he did.
On seeing the Mrs. Bromwick face slowly swelling in anger, he quickly tried to overwrite his words, "No, it's not like that, what I meant was, I am not sure Nora would be able to get the contract", he explained.
Chris smiled looking at Aaron, "And if she succeeds what are you going to do? Shall we bet on that?
Aaron sneered immediately, "Bring it on! Why should I fear your lousy threat? What could you possibly bet on?", he asked.
"If she succeeds, you will go down on your knees and kiss my fit before the entire family, admitting that you were wrong. And if the reverse were the case, I will do same to you in front of the entire family. Do we have a deal?", Chris explained his term.
On hearing this Aaron began to laugh uncontrollably, "You loser! You are really looking forward to dying! Alright then, we have a deal!", Aaron said.
Chris nodded satisfied, "The entire family is hear to witness this bet! Who goes back on the bet is indirectly wishing death to his father, mother, grandpa and GRANDMA!", Chris said, deliberating laying emphasis on the "grandma", because he didn't want Aaron to go back on the bet after losing.
On hearing these words, Aaron dared not go back on the bet, for it will be like cursing his grandmother, Old Mrs. Bromwick, to die! She wouldn't easily let him off the hook!
"Okay Chris!", Aaron said after thinking, obviously feeling like he was definitely going to win. But little did he know that he was running fast into Chris's trap. He went on laughing, "Everyone here! Hope you see and hear this, for you are all witnesses! I await your kneeling before me!", he added.
Startled by the bet, Nora kept on winking and sending signals to Chris, but Chris ignored completely.
Mrs. Bromwick showed no interest in the bet, all she wanted was to be amongst those who get to collaborate with Axel Group. If the boys decided to bet, that's none of her business, she wouldn't stop it, even if Aaron was to told to call Chris, "daddy!", let alone kneel at his feet.
"This marks the end of the meeting! Nora, you have 3days to win that contract!", Mrs. Bromwick said.
As soon as Chris and Nora got home, Nora's parents began to rain abuses on them.
Sarah, Chris's mother-in-law was anxious, "Nora, you must be out of your mind! How could you listen to this loser, and accept such a challenge without thoroughly thinking about it?", she asked.
Jacob, Chris's father-in-law was equally anxious, he immediately turned to Chris, "Chris! You just useless, look at what you've done! You have killed my daughter!", he said.
"If Nora should fail, she would be completely sidelined by the family, and you! You are going to go on your kneels before the feet of Aaron and kiss them in front of the entire family! Oh, my dignity will be dragged in the mud!", he said obviously very angry.
"Dad, mom, it's all going to be fine if Nora can successfully negotiate and strike the deal", Chris explained.
"Negotiate my ass!", Jacob barked at Chris, "Do you even know what you are up against? The Axel Group is the largest company in the Hillsprings! They won't even look at the Bromwick family!", he added aloud.
Chris gave a warm smile, "Yes, some may look down on us, but we can't drop out without at least trying. I strongly believe in Nora, I know she can do it!", he said.
Sarah, mother-in-law sneered, "What are you? Do you think you own the Axel Group? Rubbish! You are just...You just a loser! nothing but a piece of trash, a brainless idiot! How dare you speak ignorantly with so much confidence!", she barked at Chris.
