Chapter 58 - Fifty eight

On hearing that Lilian's dad was a cultural relic appraiser, the classmates began to feel sorry for Chris.

They felt Chris was quite unlucky this time.

He was planning to lie about his painting's worth, but he had no idea there was an expert around. This should come as a huge slap to his face.

If Lilian's father really comes, he would certainly embarrass Chris.

Nora on the other hand was already getting embarrassed, "Chris, so many classmates are watching you now, please don't be stubborn and just tell them what they want to hear, else they would embarrass you", Nora whispered into his ear.

Before they arrived, Chris had told her that he bought the painting for a couple of thousands, now he claims its worth more than tens. Nora too felt Chris wasn't being honest, she felt he was just saying it to get his classmates attention.

"Since you don't believe, let them go get the expert to take a look", Chris said.

"Also lets not forget guys, Phillip who can afford to lose just said he was going to eat the table", Chris added.

When Phillip heard Chris's words he immediately remembered his car which was burnt down in the last bet he and Chris had.

"Chris you bastard! I was humiliated by losing to you in the race back then! But I accepted that I lost! Just as I did back then so also I stand now, willing to make another bet! If the painting truly is worth tens of thousands, I will eat this table before your very eyes! But if it's not, can you eat the table?", Phillip asked.

"Okay then, if it's not worth it, I'll eat it as well", Chris replied nodding.

Even though the painting isn't all that popular, it is truly the work of King Dina, and the antique shop Chris purchased the painting was a national one, which gaurantees originality, and they penalize fakes, so the painting there cannot be fake.

Nora tried her best to stop Chris but Chris refused to buldge, he made the bet anyways. She couldn't help but sigh secretly.

Tesla too was amazed by Chris's confidence.

She just stared and him and couldn't help but feel that he was acting quite mysteriously. Back at the Classy Mansion, the great Over Hong was bowing down to him and apologizing. She was still yet to figure out why, now this.

She was certain that Chris was hiding something.

Phillip saw this as a chance to gain back his pride, "Okay everyone, you are witness to this once again, let Lilian go and get her dad!", he said aloud.

Lilian immediately brought out her phone and dialed her dad's number, "Hello dad, please I need you down stairs right now, one of Griffin's classmates has a painting and I need you to come take a look at it", she said.

In a minuite, her father appeared. An old man, he walked down the stairs slowly.

This was the famous York Lune, the cultural relic appraiser in the Hillsprings.

This was the opening of his daughter's and future son-in-law's restuarant. And he was here with an old friend of his upstairs. On hearing that there was an ancient painting downstairs that needed his appraising, he quickly rushed down to see.

York Lune mounted the stage and his daughter Lilian quickly gave him the box which housed Chris's painting, "Dad, can you please help us appraise it, some say it worth tens of thousands, is that true?", Lilian said.

After saying that, she turned to Chris, looking at him conptemptously.

Who would actually believe that a man who can't afford leftovers would now be able to afford a painting worth tens of thousands?

The painting was no doubt a fake.

And others thought just as she did, no one believed Chris could give a painting worth such.

York Lune took the scroll out of the box and stretched it open as the classmates watched in anticipation.

The old paintings being yellowish looks quite inconspicuous.

As the classmates saw the painting them self they began to mock, throwing one sentence after the other.

"yes I do believe it's worth fifty's but not tens of thousands!"

"And the box it was kept is obviousable of no value, maybe 7 or 8 at most!"

York Lune took his time to study the painting, and after a couple of minutes, he smiled and asked, "Is this painting really a gift from a classmate of Griffin's?"
