"Leave us, " ordered Carla.
Her bodyguards collectively mumbled a "yes" and retreated from the room.
Carla looked at Alia. "Can you tell me now?"
Alia sighed, her voice solemn. "Back when I really put you through hell and concealed
everything about father's affairs, I'm assuming you think that Uncle Simeon and I caused your
father's demise."
"There's no doubt that we were after your father's money, but we did not harm a single hair
on his head. To put it bluntly, our family depended on your father to survive. It would not
benefit us if any harm came to him. "
"However, there was something that we did hide from you."
Alia paused briefly as she plucked up the courage to make the admission. "Your father
was murdered."
"By who?" asked Carla anxiously.
"Well…" Alia trailed off and frowned. She felt conflicted by this.
Simeon then had to shake her a little to make her continue. "Tell her."
"I don't know who it is exactly, " said Alia in a low voice. "But I do know that it is
someone from the Giblo family."
Carla was astonished and her eyes widened in shock. The Giblos had a hand in this?
"Don't get me wrong, but I'm not talking about Mr. Giblo. I really doubt it's him." Alia
hurriedly continued. "At first, I only knew that it was someone who used the Giblo Group to
put pressure on the Wigston Corporation. It was a hostile takeover, so your father had no
choice but to yield."
Just then, Mr. Giblo and the Divine Corporation had yet to enter the domestic market, so
this is why I don't think it's him. It has to be someone else from the family, but I'm just not
sure who it is exactly."
Carla's emotions were a mess after she heard this. I don't think it's Zayn either, but
who could it be?
"I was there on the day of your father's accident and remember him telling me something
strange, " whispered Simeon. "He mentioned that the Giblo family couldn't find out about you,
or there would be trouble."
"What do you mean?" asked Carla with suspicion in her tone.
"I don't know either." Simeon looked thoughtfully at her. "I think it might have something to do
with your mother."
"My mother?" Carla was even more confused by this. Her mother had disappeared
shortly after she was born. What did the troubles with her father's company have to do with
her mother?
"Maybe your mother had a spat with the Giblo family? This is purely speculation, of course.
But I'd met her before when I was young." "At that time, your father was still poor, and your
mother seemed to be the child of a prestigious family."
"Although I cannot determine what her background is, there's no mistaking the fact that
she's lived a life of luxury. She was always followed around by a large number of
bodyguards, and her trappings seemed to be no less than what our current Mr. Giblo would
enjoy.
"You also look exactly like her. The resemblance is remarkable.
Carla didn't say a word because her mind was still a jumble from trying to process what
he told her.
What exactly is going on?
What she possessed now was vital information indeed. But instead of clarity, she ended up
having more questions than answers.
"Try not to dwell on it." Alia, having read Carla's emotions, interjected almost
immediately. "I think Mr. Giblo is being sincere. He isn't like Harry at all! That beast of a
man is ignorant and ruthless. He knows that Lena is going to be the death of Lola, but
he's not lifting a finger to help."
"We were truly blinded by the situation. We even intentionally approved of Lola's marriage to
him. Come to think of it… This is probably retribution."
Alia paused and sighed deeply before continuing.
"Carla, the reason why I'm telling you this is to warn you. Marrying into a rich family is
complicated. Even if Mr. Giblo is there to protect you, his family is anything but simple.
There will be times where his protection will fail. You must be careful and ensure that you
keep yourself and the kids safe."
"You're right. I appreciate the warning."
Carla was still reeling from the emotions she felt. But she knew that Alia was right.
Zayn might be a good man, but if his family truly had such terrible people, she would not
be able to escape their clutches if anything happened.
