Everyone stood there speechless for a while.
The tiny female voice quickly blurted out, breaking the silence as usual, "Dad isn't that your watch?"
The words rang in everyone's ear as though the room was hollow and so could echo.
No one said another word.
Kareen walked forward and took up the watch, "it is!", she said looking at it.
"And it's broken now!", she added with a childish frown.
Dad looked at Mrs. Bell who at the time was partially naked and was covering her b__bs with her hand, her face flushed in humiliation.
"Why would you do this?", dad asked.
Mrs Bell broke into tears, while Jimmy looked down, also sharing in the humiliation.
"I am so sorry, I... I... Just want to send my son to school, I don't want his life to be wasted just because his father died and I don't have enough money to send him to college", Mrs. Bell said crying.
"Mrs. Bell, you could have just asked.", dad said and turned to Kareen.
"Let me have it!", he said with a stern look on his face.
Kareen looked at him confused, in her eyes it was clearly seen that she wasn't pleased with dad's reaction to the situation. And dad was looking at her in a sternful manner; after performing such a miraculous catch, it was enough to make one annoyed.
She gave dad the watch and walked away angry.
"I would have easily given you this, but it's very special to me, it was given to me by my mom", Dad said looking at the watch.
Jimmy exhaled heavingly, seemingly really p_ssed at his mom.
"Don't worry about your son; college right?", he asked.
She gently nodded, "I'll take care of that!", Dad added.
She couldn't say anything but cry some more. Jimmy himself, couldn't lift up his head, he just nodded frantically and said: "Thank you sir!"
"You can go now! Go catch up with what ever it is you wanted to catch up with.", he said and sent them off.
When he came back and shut the door, he called out with a loud shout: "Kareen!"
"Kareen!"
After a while, a timid looking little girl stepped down the stairs
"Yes?", she said.
"How did you do it?", dad asked.
"Do what?", she asked innocently.
"Mrs. Bell's dress and the watch?", dad spoke on.
"I didn't do anything!", she replied with a frown.
"Are you saying her dress just went down its own, he had nothing to do with your pranks?", dad asked.
"I didn't do anything!", Kareen replied now raising her voice.
"Honey, don't be too harsh on her, how could she have possibly done that?", Mom spoke out.
"If she didn't do it, then who did? Are you saying a ghost pulled her dress down? Cause last time I checked women blouses and bras don't pull off on their own!", dad said loudly.
"maybe...", Kareen mutttered quietly, in a not so loud manner, so much so only I heard it.
As soon as his voice fell, mom began to laugh, turned to dad and said: "if it was ghost, you should be grateful to it, cause it just saved you hours of pointless searching!"
Mom seemed to be in support of the action; dad just continued staring at her in amazement.
"Please honey, leave my genius daughter alone, even if she was the one that conducted such a prank, I am very proud of her, infact when she feels like, I would like her to tell me how she deviced such a masterpiece!", mom added.
Dad couldn't say a thing after this, he just looked at his watch and walked up stairs while mom continued laughing.
Kareen's getting really good at her pranks, she's almost convincing me that there really is a ghost.
No Katie! Don't buldge; instead, I'll get even.
I looked at Kareen for awhile whose face had litted put cause of mom's defence; she then glanced to the side and winked at thin air.
I turned away immediately, this girl is really good at this, she knows I was looking at her, so she decided to wink at thin air soI'll really think there's a ghost.
"It's not going to work Kareen!", I said and walked up the stairs.
"What's up with her?", I heard mom ask faintly.
When I got into my room, I sat on the bed for a while, looking around and trying to think of a prank I can conduct, strong enough to fool her in thinking there really is a ghost.
When I am convinced that she's fooled, I'll let her know that I am the one behind it all and then she would get rid of her childish superstition.
I quickly took out a note book and a pen, and began to draw.
++++
I opened my eyes and saw my self drooling on the paper I was draughting on; I must have slept off drawing.
I raised my head up, and the paper followed my face.
"Sh_t!", I uttered as I pulled it away.
Looking at it, I could barely make any sense out of it; at least it wouldn't be physically possible to do, so I tossed it in the dustbin, stood up, yawned and stretched.
I looked at the time, it was already some minutes passed 7; why has mom not come and knock on my door.
"That's strange", I uttered gently opening the door, it was really quiet in the hallway.
I shut the door back and decided to bathe, get dressed and act like I was just arranging my room or something.
I got into the shower, with my comb this time and began to take my bath.
While bathing and humming gently, I heard the sound of something moving in my room.
"Who's there?", I asked aloud as I kept quiet.
The sound went on, seemingly scattering things.
I slowly turned off the shower and called out: "Kareen?!"
I pulled down my towel, wrapped myself up in it, and gently walked outside, holding my comb like a weapon.
When I got outside, I discovered my dustbin had fallen and its contents were scattered all over the place.
But only one thing stood out; the paper I draughted the prank on.
When I walked closer to it, I saw a strange writing, written conspicuously on it; and it spelt out: "GAME ON!", with a smiley devil face emoji.
To be continued......
