"Alright let's play!", I smiled.
"……how does it work?!", I asked and for a moment the were all stunned to find out that I didn't even know how to play.
"What?! You don't know how to play?!", Sam asked obviously trying to hold back his joy.
"What a dummy!"
"He can't even play!",
"Brother Sam's got himself a new car!"
The brawny men whispered to themselves.
"You... You can't play?", Roger asked as his heart beat slowed down.
"I really don't, I heard math and thought about how good I was in it while in school..", I replied.
".... while you were in school...", He suddenly paused, "Don't you go to school anymore?!" His heart beat paced up again, this time obviously in excitement.
Sam turned away and quickly put up the full smile he had been trying to conceal, forgetting that this place has many reflective surfaces; I can see any thing clearly at a glance, even down to the bars counter.
I smiled slightly, loving the impression I was giving.
"Alright.... A series of math questions will be up on screen one after the other, if you were to play alone; that is against the Math machine, they give you a time to complete the task. If you were able to complete it in time, you get a percentage of your investment depending on the time you finished; else you loose your money completely." He explained.
"Wow!", I exclaimed and looked a the machine in fascination.
Acquiring wealth here wouldn't be hard for a Caleb.
After he finished speaking he controled his way to the settings of the game.
"Here you can set the difficulty; the higher the difficulty the more percent you get back.", He further explained.
Looking at the setting, I saw the numbers listed from difficulty 1 to 12 and then on the middle was the time, listed from 10sec to 5min, and finally the number of questions.
"When you match this, a percentage will show. For example, the lowest which is difficulty 1, and time set to 5 min; to answer 3 questions, will give you....", He spoke as he controled his way there.
And on the screen was 0.1%.
Putting something like 5000 USD will give back 5 USD which is in not a really profiting investment.
"What about the highest", I looked at him.
He glanced at me and chuckled.
"That's impossible, only a robot or a god can do that!", He smiled as he controled his way there.
"Difficulty 12 in 10 seconds to answer 10 questions...", He said as he controled machine.
And suddenly the figure 200% was displayed.
"The Holy grail!", I said with a smile.
"Impossible!!", Roger snorted.
"You'll have to answer each question in about... A second to make that! Impossible!!!", He spoke aloud getting angry.
"Ignorance and blindness will always speak about the darkness.", I said and turned to the machine.
"Let's start then, what's the rule we have to follow while playing ourselves?", I asked immediately not giving them too much room to think and bring up an argument from my previous statement.
"For us, we'll set it on a particular difficulty level and play, who ever finishes in the less time wins", he explained.
"Alright, so if you loose 3 times, I get 623 USD as well as what ever I want here...", I said and turned to Sam to get his reply.
"…Yes!", He said affirmatively after a brief moment of silence and gritting of teeth, not forgetting to glance at Roger.
"Don't worry boss, I got this!", Roger replied now feeling slightly more confident after hearing a bit of my back story
"Alright, let's play!", I said laying my hand on the machine.
"Who's going firsts?!", Roger asked and turned to Sam, the supposed moderator of the game.
"Get me a coin!", Sam said to the guy next to him.
"Heads or tails?", He asked before the guy sent came.
"Heads!", I replied.
In a few seconds a coin was brought over.
"Wait!", I said as he was about to flip the coin.
"What?!", Sam frowned at me.
"I would like to flip the coin!", I smiled at him.
"That's the moderators job!", Roger sounded irritated.
"But I like flipping coins!", I added.
"It doesn't matter!", Sam who seemed to be impatient said still about to flip the coin.
"If it doesn't matter, then let me flip!", I said sounding throwing a tantrum.
With a sigh, Sam handed the coin over: "Who begins doesn't really matter! A winner is usually the best player!"
"But... But, I'll like to see....", Roger was mid way through his sentence when he saw the coin in the air.
Tap!
It landed on my hand with my palm closed.
"I am usually lucky with flips!", I said with a smile and then open my hand.
"Hahaha!"
"It's tails!
"Lucky my foot!"
The brawny men spoke one after the other.
The yelling and comotion at this time had successfully grabbed the attention of most of the people around the Gambling hall.
So the watchers were not just Sam's men but some others who came to gamble regularly.
On seeing this Sam wore the biggest smile.
"My Roger still goes first!", He tapped Roger's back.
Roger who had the same intentions as me wasn't so happy; he wanted to test my ability.
I could just show him directly, but I don't want him quitting before the game even starts. I can't fail too far from his score so my win doesn't make my fail look faked.
After setting the difficulty, Roger began to play.
LET'S HAVE SOME COMMENTS!
To be continued....
