On seeing him, my heart leaped, my eyes went dizzy; I heard Chloe scream and that was the last I saw before opening my eyes again to Jimmy and dad; closed and reopened it repeatedly like one battling with sleep.
"Katie!", They all called as I was repeatedly tapped.
I finally opened my eyes and their questions began to rain.
"Are you okay? Can you hear me?…"
I sat up and looked around.
Kareen wasn't there.
Chloe was by the side crying and holding unto Courtney as her teeth chattered non-stop like one catching a cold.
"Where's Kareen", I asked.
"She's…", dad said as he turned left and right looking for Kareen.
"She was right here a moment ago!", He said puzzled.
Afterwards, he turned to me added: "she must have gone to get something… more importantly, what happened to you?"
"Yeah, what happened?", Jimmy emphasized.
"You look like one who just saw a ghost…", dad said.
"Did a flare from the light get into your eyes?", Jimmy asked looking at Chloe and her sister by the side.
I really couldn't give any of them a reply, the best I could say was: "I am fine"
As I spoke I attempted to get up and was helped up by dad.
"Easy…", he said as he assisted.
"Why don't you sit and eat something?", He asked with some concern as he saw me holding my crutches and looking up the stairs with an obvious intent to go up.
"I'll be right back…", I said as I walked away with my crutches.
"Katie!", He called with a hand my arm.
"I insist.", He said gesturing me to sit.
"Don't worry, I'll go look Kareen…", he added and left.
I sat back on my sit and turned to Chloe who at the time had sobbing.
Courtney looked at Jimmy with a confused and worried expression; acting like her sister was sick.
Is this bitch tryna get sympathety?
"Courtney?!", I called.
In shock, her eyes fell on me.
"What's wrong with your sister?", I asked looking at her.
"She… she… says she saw a…", Courtney spoke as she occasionally looked at Chloe and suddenly stopped.
"Forget about it! Kids and their mind games…", Courtney added.
I was about to say something, but decided to keep quiet instead.
Just then, Dad came down with Kareen.
I could see them conversing, but couldn't tell what they were saying, until they got close enough.
"I've told you dad… I went to look for a potion to revive a fainting person.", She explained.
"I heard that, the question is what potion?!", Dad asked.
"Or you mean where I got it?", Kareen said with a confused expression.
"Okay… where did you get it?", Dad asked as Kareen sat.
"An old alchemy book…", She replied as she began to eat and added with a mouthful: "but Katie… ihs… fine now… I didn't get to try it…"
Dad stared at her obviously not knowing what to say.
I understood what she was trying to do and so added: "Dad I thought you knew your daughters very well. Don't you know how Kareen is with these superstitious stuff.
Dad looked at me who was also about to start eating and couldn't help but nod his head.
"Both of you are just something!", He added and turned to me.
"When you're done eating, I am taking you for a check up.", He said and left.
As soon as he was out of site, I looked around.
Jimmy was trying to talk to Chloe, while Courtney stood there watching them.
I immediately turned back to Kareen and asked seriously: "what did you go up to do?"
"To get… a potion!", She said as she ate on.
With my hand, I hit the back of her head.
"Quit that bullsh_t story! What did you really go up to do?", I added with an angry expression.
"I broke up with Denzel!", She added.
"You what?!", I asked as my eyebrows leaped in fear.
"Why?!", I asked.
"I don't like him anymore! Isn't that how relationships work?!", She asked as she continued eating carelessly.
"Are you out of your mind!", I said trying not to shout as I looked around to see if Jimmy and the others are looking at me.
"Of course not in this case!", I said holding down the hand she used in eating.
"Do you know if the only reason we are spared is cause you guys are dating!", I added.
She glared and added with a tired expression: "not really. I am it's master, he can't go against my will unless I bridge the contract or I am hurt by someone. That among 5 others are the only things I can't control about Denzel."
"There's a contract?!", I asked.
She laughed and continued speaking: "unlike you, I don't jump into things cause I find them attractive."
Bang!
I hit her head hard.
"Ouh!", She uttered and coughed as she looked at me.
"F_ck Katie! I just told you I have no control over these things!", She added as she looked behind me.
"Ahhhh!", I heard Chloe who was also behind me screaming.
I needed not to turn around to know that Denzel was behind me.
Only then did I recall a part of the agreement they had.
Bang!!!
I felt a huge force against my head.
