I picked it out of the bag and held the box up. It suddenly felt lighter than it did before it's opening.
I held the cover and gently opened it.
Almost immediately, from the tips of my fingers, to my knuckles, all the way to my arms and elbow, began to change in color.
It was almost like I was trapped in a second for more than 10.
I could feel the change completely.
And suddenly, it all came to a stop; the sounds, the air, the stink, the high definition view.
"Woah!", I exclaimed noticing how peaceful everything was.
My skin was no longer pale, it was like that of a normal human; I could no longer hear the sound of the chirping birds or the rushing wind on my skin.
The tiny creatures that creeped slowly were no longer visible.
"I am normal!", I exclaimed full of joy as I jumped on my feet.
I stood for a while trying to hear something I normally would; but after standing for a while, I realized I couldn't hear passed the sound of the chirping crickets.
I sat down on the log I was sitted before, looking at the box.
I decided to close the box and see what happens.
And just like it did when it was opened, so did it when closed.
My skin went back to being pale, my seeing, hearing and smelling were all restored.
Just at that moment, I heard someone approaching fast from behind.
"Stop right there!", I said pointing the gun at the man's face.
His hands went up immediately.
"I can explain!", he said as his heartbeat increased by a thousand.
I said nothing as I watched him talk.
"I only kidnapped them because I knew it would get to you, they are still alive! The cops found them, so no harm done!", he added terrified because of the gun in front of his head.
After hearing him speak, I was a little bit lost. Who has he kidnapped and of what importance would they have been to me?
Just then it hit me. Merylin and her mom were off to the location were I ad left him and his friend in search of me. They must have disclosed to him that we were related and he must have taken opportunity of the innocent women.
But then "the cops have them", what does he mean by that?
Looking at how tired and wet his clothes were it's obvious he went swiming; could that be how he escaped them? By water?
That's almost impossible!
"I know! I sent the cops over. But I would really like to know something though. What exactly did you have in mind?", I asked trying to squeeze out what happened from him as I further pressed the gun against his head.
"I.... I...", he stuttered breathing heavily and looking at the gun placed on his forehead.
At this time, I could hear the sound of the helicopters and police vehicles as they approached our direction.
The helicopter makes a lot of noise, so I could tell when t's coming from miles.
"Speak!", I pressed the hammer.
"I will! I will!", he said and continued.
"I planned to drown them both! Driving the van into the river, after locking the van from behind so they wouldn't escape. I am so sorry!", he added still breathing heavily.
What a terrible way to die?
It is said that drowing is one of the worse ways to die, because you watch yourself die slowly and no matter how hard you struggle, no positive change is made.
He who intends to end a live shouldn't have a problem with his life being ended.
This bastard is so lucky we are far from the waters, I would have given him pain, so much so it would drive his soul out of his body.
But there are more than one ways to kill a mouse.
"I understand why you wanted to kill my mom and sister...", I added as I took a few steps back and lowered the gun.
"Yes! Yes, it was out of impulse, I never would have done that if not for my bestfriend Marloy!", he said as his once fast pacing heart slowly began to reduce its pace.
The human body on fright and flight mode tends to get prepared to receive pain and so it isn't as painful as when it is least expected, or when hit in puzzled state. Especially when the hit is the answer.
"Yes, you are very right. Which means you should also understand what it means and why I decided to end your life in a miserable way.", I added with a smile as he tried to wrap his head around what I was saying.
