Chapter 23 - Death biker

I continued staring at her, but no word was uttered.

And abruptly, "sub commander!", We heard someone call, "what is it?", Xender asked.

"They are here!", The person said alarmed. "We have to go!", Xender said and rushed out.

I looked around and took with my self a bow and some arrows and I was out.

The arrows here were well sharpened, a wood so sharp it cuts one's skin by merely scraping the surface.

I hurried to the bridge. It was still night, we could barely see a thing, all we could do was hear the sound of a bike, growls and footsteps as the zombie army ran towards us. Lights had already been set up, after, on and before the bridge, and all the fort, so we could see them clearly.

"Get ready guys they are almost here!", Xender said aloud as the sound of the bike, their growls and foot steps increased. I took Xender's words a lot more serious, cause I know she sees them, seemingly better and more seamless compared to I and the commander.

Just as she had predicted, in a few seconds they were on the bridge, the sight of the black suited zombie on bike sent shock to all who saw him, for although they had been told of the wave of zombies coming, no one expected such; apart from I the commander and Xender.

It drove towards us spinning it's chain above it's head as he drove his bike, holding it's handle with one hand.

"Now!", The commander yelled and those in charge of the bombs threw them at the bridge, 3 in number.

2 of them came in contact with the spinning chains and flew back into the fort, "watch out!", The commander yelled as everyone ran away from the grenades.

That alone had us distabilised, before we could recover, some troops had died from both the grenade and the chain wielding zombie.

The last grenade successfully landed and the bridge, destroying a part but not the entire thing, so the rest zombies still had a passage in.

The zombie on the bike was already in with his bike, he paused and stared at everyone, "I normally kill all, but amongst you, I smell my kind!", he said and he took a deep breath, "what are you guys waiting for? Attack!", the commander yelled and the shootings began.

The rest herd of zombies ran towards us in speed and began to devour anything they laid a hand on. Their leader, the chain wielder on the bike drove through, swinging his blade all over the place, killing any who his chain came in contact with.

It was obvious that we had lost the fight and our only option was to retreat. I turned to Xender who stood from a distance sending out 3 arrows at the same time, at supersonic rate, "Toby!", she called as she sent the 3 arrows in one direction to a zombie about to attack a troop of hers' who seemed very unware of the situation.

The arrows went as she has shot not missing the single target. One went through its arm, another through it's leg and the last through its head. She did so seamlessly even Toby did not notice the death of his attacker but kept on attacking.

She turned to another member of her troop and did same, basically all she was doing at the war front was help her troop members. This was obviously the reason for the low loss rate in the sub artillery section; their leader valued all her troop members.

Suddenly! Xender howled, and all her troop members noticed this, everyone else thought it was a war sound and so added no meaning to it. The timing was perfect for a lot of blood had been shared, even the commander had sustained alot of wounds.

One by one the troop members of the artillery substitute began depart one after the other, as Xender pressed on to the war front, this time around protecting her sister and her troops.

I refused to leave as Xender had commanded. I had been shooting arrows for quite a while, killing any monster that came my way, but the center of my attention was Xender, she had contributed to the war more than anyone else, because she was the reason why the casualties were not as much as they were supposed to be.

The chain wielding zombie finally met the commander; without a second thought, the commander charged towards him with his axes, one on each hand.

"Dad!!", Helen yelled as she saw her father running towards his obvious doom.

The chain was swung flying towards the commanders head, for some reason it all appeared in a very slow motion.

And suddenly! The commander tilted and fell to the ground, "arggh!!", he screamed in pain holding his leg which had an arrow coming out of it, this was a work of none other but Xender.

The zombie on the bike had drove passed the commander at the time, onn noticing he missed his kill he drove in full speed, killing yet again anyone that came his way.

I looked at the ground and realized that they were sword littered everywhere, I quickly picked one up and ran towards the commander.

I stood about 13 to 15 feets away from the commander, the zombie on bike was about 23 to 25 feets from him as well. The commander was at my right, while the zombie was at my left, and so was the hand wielding the chain which was about 12 to 15 fts long, I could actually stop the chain with my sword.

I ran towards the commander and so saw the chain coming, I raised the my sword up, the chain came in contact with the sword, went around it and with that force took the sword out of my hand, hitting the zombie at his back. I wasn't expecting that at all, and neither was he, cause he fell to the ground with his.

I bent down and picked another sword, for they were literally littered all over the place.

While the fallen zombie tried to recover, I ran towards the commander and so did Xender.

"Why did you shoot at me?", the commander asked Xender, "if she hadn't done that, you would have been a dead man!", I replied, "guys, he's getting up!", Helen said alarmed, "Xender, cover me!", I said as I stood up, "what! No! What are you still doing here? You should have been out of here!", she said, "Just shut up and cover me!", I said as I ran towards the zombie who had abandoned his bike and was now on foot running towards us.

"Derick!", the girls called as I ran planlessly towards this chain wielding zombie. It noticed I was going for it and changed its target, once I noticed that I was his target, I held the sword a lot firmer.

He swung its chain at me, aiming for my head, I went low, and swung my sword at it's face, he dodged and jumped back. I felt alot more confident, for I now knew its main target. It hits to kill, so it goes for the head or any other vitals.

I stood and looked at it as it gained its balanced and also looked at me, "are your the one?", he asked inhaling deeply, "the scent is strongly coming from you direction, but you don't look like it!", he said and spinned his left hand, seemingly warming it up.

He switched the hand he used to hold the chain and began to swing the chain above its head with his left hand, and then started running towards me.

I too did same, as other minor fights happened between zombies and troops around as I and their leader ran towards each other in a fight to the death battle.

Just as he did the last time he swung his chain to my head, I dodged and went left trying to strike, to take out his balance; that was when I realised the reason for the change in the hand he used in holding the chain.

His right hand went for my face and before my sword could touch him, his right hand had already touched my face, sending me flying in the air.

"Derick!", the girls called as I flew in the across the battle into the river.

When I opened my eyes, someone had dived after me. I closed my eyes and when I opened them I was out, "are you okay?", Helen asked, I honestly wasn't expecting her.

I coughed out water and turned right, "where is Xender?", I asked looking around, "there", she said pointing at Xender shooting and running away from the zombie with chains.

"Stop this!", he said chasing after her as he got angry, "catch me!", she replied as she ran around the fort. This made him more angry. He ran after her swinging his chain aggressively, this resulted in the death of not only our troops but zombies as well.

Xender employed a really smart strategy, but how can I help her? How can I optimize her strategy?

"His back is open!", I said realizing that as he ran after Xender, all his focus was Xender, leaving his back unprotected.

I stood up, "where are you going?", Helen asked as I looked at the ground in search of a sword, "to help her! Cover me!", I said aloud as I ran towards him, killing every zombie in my path. When I got close enough, I jumped about to descend on him with my sword.

It was well timed cause he stopped in anger, to yell, which was perfect, so I thought until a zombie hijacked me, mid-air.

"Get off me!", I yelled angry as I began to struggle with it.

After a while of struggling I was able to put the sword through its gutt and it came out its head; I pushed it of and stood up looking for Xender and the zombie.

I spotted them still playing their running game,

I ran towards them again, noticing Xender getting tired and the chain wielding zombie getting alot more aggressive.

"Helen!!", I called, "yes?", She replied now next to her wounded father whose leg was wounded, "I need you to aim at his eyes!", I yelled, "how am I supposed to do that?", She asked, "Just be ready!", I yelled and ran towards it still with my sword.

"Hey ugly!", I yelled throwing a sword at him, "arghhhh!!!!", He uttered really annoyed, "come on! I am not through with you yet", I said aloud and began to run, taking Xender out of the game.

It ran after me, and I too ran, running towards Helen and her father, "Helen! Now!", I yelled and Helen who had been holding her gun pointed it at me, "get out of the way!", She yelled and I jumped on the floor.

The sound of her fired gun was heard , twice.

I turned around to see the now shouting zombie, he dropped his chain and was holding its eyes.

"We did it!", Helen exclaimed, and we all thought so, not until we bent down in search of his chains, growling in anger.

"Derick! Do something!", Helen yelled as Xender ran to us.

"Let's get the chain out before he gets a hold of it!", Xender said as we both ran towards him.

"Too late!", I said seeing him pick up the chain, "run!", Xender yelled as the blind zombie got up with the chain and began to spin it without a direction.

We ran back to Helen watching the chain wielding zombie go on a rampage, killing all in the radius of his walk path.

"Derick!", I heard my name called from the side. I turned to see who it was, "grandma!", April said with tears in her eyes while she knelt on the floor holding someone in her arm.

"No! it can't be!", I said as my eyes grew moist.
