Bullets flew like birds on a tree woken up in the morning.
At the other side of the water, was my mom holding up her shield as the bull closed it's eyes.
And for the zombies she seemed to be commanding, some ran forward and others backwards, the once who ran forward held shields, while the ones behind tried their best to stay behind the ones with shields.
After shooting aimlessly for a while, killing just a few of them, the commander commanded they stopped.
The shooting soon subsided. Suddenly! A really large rock flew from the other side to where we were, "watch out!!", Some shouted as the rock appeared more visible.
It finally landed with a huge thud, and with blood was written on it's surface, "surrender!!!".
All around laughed, acting like they weren't scared, "There is something written behind it as well!", someone said and the rock was turned around.
This time something was inscribed, "we took out fort 1, your only options are to accept abduction or die", someone read.
"Are they trying to scare us!", the commander said aloud, "dad, I think you need to look at that, deeper than you are!", Xender said, "silence!", he commanded, "they took down Fort 1 so what! We have something they don't! We can see through their eyes, I doubt anyone in Fort 1 could do that", he said confidently, trying to inspite confidence into the minds of the rest of them.
"So dad, how are we supposed to fight them, when they all have their shields up?", Helen asked, "give me a second", he said and closed his eyes.
I looked forward to the zombies at the other side, they didn't seem to be making any moves, seemingly waiting for us to make a decision.
"The shields at the left are weaker, fire at that side!!", he commanded and immediately they started firing at the zombies at the left, and just as he had predicted, the zombies at the left had their shields broken, one after the other and some began to die, while others ran behind the ones whose shields were stronger.
Suddenly! Mom raised her hand and pointed it forward, and seconds later, just like there was a flying rock, they came flying zombies catapulted into the air at a rapid rate.
They landed and one after the other, they were slaughtered before they could make a move in the fort, "they are no match for us!", the commander said laughing and so did some of the troops who had been doing the slaughtering.
I couldn't help but feel like they had a plan, "argh!!", I said holding my head and in a flash, I saw several zombies trying to pull something, and my eyes became open.
"Are you okay?", Xender asked, "a vision", I replied, "what did you see?", she asked, "I saw some zombies in the fort!", I replied, "Where were they? What were they doing?", she asked, "they were trying to pull up something, a long stick, with a black handle", I replied, "a long stick, with a black handle", she repeated thinking.
"A lever! |The bridge!", she said aloud seemingly realising what it meant, "the bridge?", The commander who heard her say replied confused, "the bridge!!", others yelled, pointing at the bridge which was slowly coming up.
"Who is doing that! Go check the control chambers at once!", the commanmder commanded angry.
As soon as the bridge came up the surface, the herd of zombies at the other side, mom included, charging towards us at a great speed.
"They are coming!!", some yelled, "Get ready soldiers!", the commander yelled, "they are zombies inside the fort! And in the control chambers!", someone yelled, "what! how come!", the commander replied confused.
"Dad! I and Derick will aid the citizens, while you guys hold them off!", Xender said holding my hand, "you stay here! And fight by our side!", he said angered, "Dad someone has to protect the citizens", she replied, "Helen! Go with Derick! And anyone else who wants to but Xender", the commander commanded.
"As you wish father!", Helen said with a smile that couldn't be hidden as I looked at sad Xender.
"I'll come too!", I heard April say, "as will I!", June added.
We ran away from the war front, hearing them yell as the zombies got really close.
"Let's go to the houses!", Helen commanded as we ran after her, "zombie!", June yelled and I fired my arrow at it, "why yell zombie! When you have a bloody gun!", Helen said seemingly annoyed, "sorry!", June replied.
We came across several zombies around the fort and killed all we came in contact with, "what about the bridge chamber?", I asked, "you mean control chamber!", she corrected, "yeah!", I replied, "it's right this way!", she said as we walked after her to where it was.
"So what's your deal with Xender?", Helen asked while we walked, "I don't understand", I replied, "she doesn't normally talk to anyone, why the sudden interest in you?", she asked, "I don't know", I replied, "Just be careful around her", she added and I stopped.
"What's wrong?", Helen asked, "what do you mean, I should be careful with her, isn't she your sister?", I asked, "she is, but..", she replied, "but what?", I asked, "dad says she's evil!", she replied, "so just because your dad called her evil you jumped into that conclusion, without hearing her side of the story!", I replied quite vexed while the April and June looked at us confused.
"What did she tell you?", Helen asked now looking at me, "she told be about her delivery, how your dad abandoned her!", I replied, "dad didn't abandon her! At least not without a reason", Helen replied, "so what happened?", I asked.
"I came out first, with spots as you can see, but she refused to", she explained, "so? how does that make her evil?", I asked getting even more p_ssed, "the physician then told my dad, he had to choose between loosing both and or having one which has to be the baby! And dad chose none, because he knew how much he would hate the baby, for being the cause of the death of his beloved wife, but the physician disobeyed, bringing forth Xender!", She explained.
"And that alone made your dad call her evil?", I asked, "she's rude and arrogant, she's not one for a conversation, always wanting to be alone!", Helen explained and I continued giving her a blank stare still really p_ssed, "when Xender was young, she destroyed the first fort we built, we would have been alot more developed than we are right now if not for her", she added, "where are you really going with all of this?", I asked, "I just want you to be careful with her", she replied.
"Can you please take us to the control chambers! There's really no time for all of this", I said irritated, she said nothing and we continued walking.
I wonder why helen is trying to turn me against her sister, what's the problem with these sisters. Just the other time, Xender wanted Helen gone as though they were enemies. What really is up with them.
We finally arrived at the control chambers and June brought out his gun and began to shoot at them, "that's the spirit! Light them up!", Helen said as she did the same, I stood and with my bow I protected April while the both of them walked further into the control chambers.
"Derick!", April called as I turned around to stab a zombie's eye with an arrow, "what is it?", I asked, "please be careful with these sisters", she replied.
What is it with these girls and being careful with themselves.
"They broke the lever!", Helen said coming back to I and April, "what does that mean?", April asked, "it means the bridge is permanently up", she replied, "you mean till the lever is fixed", I said, "the person who constructed it is dead, and no one knows how to operate it!", she replied, "that means there's nothing we can do here! Our attention is needed on the war front!", I replied and rushed out with April.
We got to the battle field, alot of blood had been shed, Xender stood afar sendinng multiple arrows in, but at a slow rate and not missing a target, and so the did the rest of her troops, each using an arrow though.
Helen's troop, although with guns had faced a huge loss, but in number, they still trippled that of Xender's.
Mom stood watching everything from the very edge of the bridge in the side of our fort, killing anyone that went to her.
The zombies were still so many and at the rate at which they were coming, they were really going to wipe us all, especially since mom, their commander had not shown us what she is really capable of.
I stared at mom still on her very huge bull, seeing her upclose brought back the words of white alpha, who told me that she was still alive and well. And just as he said, she is now a zombie commanding taking down forts and not loosing a battle.
"Derick!", I heard Xender call, "don't just stand there! What were you given the bow for?", she added, and I started sending arrows flying, While Medusa stayed behind me protecting I and April.
June ran forward with Helen, "cover the troops with swords!", she further commanded, and I obeyed shooting arrows at zombies about to attack from back, those with swords.
I was really not in a fighting mood, all that went through my mind was mom, who protected me from birth to age 10, one who I thought I had lost for good to these ruthless monsters, standing before me without a scratch on her.
The commander immediately charged towards her with his big axe. Mom too was holding an axe.
She looked at him and before he could get close enough, her bull had already sent him flying by a whip of his tail, "dad!!", Helen called, running towards him dropping her gun on the way.
The bull, controlled by mom, walked towards them, "you must be the commander!", mom said as Helen tried to get him up, "I wonder why, you all ten to act stubborn, I told you, we already took down fort 1, what do you think you have that fort 1 didn't, they had alot more than you, well equipped, had even started using solid metal for their constructions", she added.
Her speech sent chills down my spine, because it was just the way it use to be back then, they were no significant changes.
The rest troop noticed her attacking their commander and began firing at her. Effortlessly, she took up her shield and soon after a crowd of zombies had come to surround and protect her.
She jumped down from the bull, still walking towards the commander, as the zombies accompanied her, "step aside young lady, I belive killing your commnder will end this waste of time!", she said lifting her axe up.
Helen looked at her and then her father, "I can't leave him! You'll have to kill me first!", she said, "have it your way!", Mom said and was about to drop the axe on her.
"Mom!!!!", I yelled.
