Take Charge 3
When they arrived at the hospital, Carla brought Freda to visit Benard in the ICU first.
After three days of emergency treatment, the doctor announced, "The patient is no longer in critical condition. However, since he inhaled a lot of toxic fumes after being shot, his situation is quite dire. It's possible that…"
"What?" asked Freda anxiously.
"He might never wake up, " continued the doctor with a frown. "We'll need to observe him for a longer period to be certain of his condition."
Freda was appalled to hear that, so much so that she staggered to her feet, swaying a little.
Carla quickly grabbed her and consoled, "Don't worry, there must be a solution. I've already asked Naya to invite Dr. Solova over. If there's hope for Diane, there's hope for Benard too."
The overwhelming sorrow made it impossible for Freda to say a single word. Hugging Carla, she burst into tears.
She had always been much calmer and stronger than Rogan.
However, she could not control her emotions anymore.
She regretted not being nicer to Benard in the past and not spending more time with him. Instead, she kept bullying and ignoring him. Freda was truly afraid that he would never wake up. In that case, there would be no way for her to make amends to him.
"He'll definitely get better. Trust me!" Carla patted her back and reassured her, "I'm here for you. Don't be scared!"
As of then, Carla was everyone's pillar of support.
Unfortunately, there was no one for her to rely on.
After visiting Benard, Carla went to check on Venus.
The doctor said Venus's injuries were not severe, but she sustained a minor concussion from the head injury. He also explained that she had yet to regain consciousness because she was heavily frightened and inhaled too much smoke.
Gazing at Venus, who was lying on the bed, Carla felt her heart aching terribly. Venus was the weakest among the three children, so she had always been particularly protective of her.
Yet, over the past few years, accidents always befell Venus.
Firstly, Selena poisoned her, then Shelley kidnapped her and held her captive. That time around, she was injured in a fire.
Remorse ate away at Carla. She despised herself for failing to protect her child well.
"Don't be too worried, Ms. Lierger. Venus will be fine, " consoled Naya softly. "From a medical perspective, she's not in critical danger. The biggest reason why she's still unconscious is that she was too traumatized. She'll be fine two days later."
"When will Dr. Solova arrive?"
Carla had no time or energy to be sad. All she could think of was to deal with the problem at hand.
"She'll arrive tonight, " said Naya. "I've already reached an agreement with her. She'll be staying in Aymo City for the long-term, at least until Venus and Benard have fully recovered."
"Okay." Carla nodded. Patting Naya's shoulder, she said, "I'll leave everything in the hospital to you. Thanks in advance."
"It's what I should do." When Naya spoke, she sounded like she was on the verge of tears. "Although I can't help you with Mr. Giblo, I can still help you with Benard, Venus, and the rest…"
"Benard's injuries are quite severe. You and Dr. Solova must treat him carefully, " exhorted Carla.
"Don't worry, " Naya promised. "Although Benard's situation is quite grave, I think there's still hope. You can just leave this to me and go ahead and deal with the other matters."
"And Bugara…"
"Bugara's injuries are only external. There's no need to worry about him."
"That's good."
After settling everything in the hospital, Carla went to visit Thompson in Garden Villa instead of heading straight to the office.
Ever since Zayn went missing, Thompson fell ill and had been bedridden for a few days.
Although Jamal also fell sick, he had forced himself to head to the office the previous day. In comparison, Thompson seemed to be in a worse situation.
Carla had the right to helm Divine Corporation, but those in Giblo Group's headquarters were still unconvinced of her abilities. Hence, she needed Thompson to take charge first.
Those troublemakers in the board of directors were all from the headquarters.
Therefore, Carla needed to get Thompson to go with her.
