"All right. I understand." Benard raised his head to look at Freda, who was getting closer and closer to him, and he snapped back to reality. "Tell Mr. Giblo that I'll be back soon."
"Oh, okay."
After ending the call, Bugara cast a tentative glance at Zayn and said, "Benard said he's going to come back soon."
"Okay." Zayn then made a dismissive gesture.
With a lowered head, Bugara left, closing the door behind him quietly.
In the dark, Zayn continued to smoke as he mulled over his emotions. He had instantly realized that Carla had asked Freda to invite Benard out so that she could sound him out.
Benard was a smart man; he should have realized that as well.
Nevertheless, he still went.
Perhaps it was because he could not reject Freda, or perhaps he wanted to use that way to relieve his guilt in leaking out the secret so that Carla could go back to the Giblo family.
Regardless of everything, by meeting Freda, Benard was prepared to become a traitor.
Therefore, Zayn had told Bugara to make the call and tell Benard that he knew he had gone to meet Freda.
Even now, Bugara still had trouble comprehending what they meant. On the other hand, Benard understood them immediately.
If Zayn knew that he had gone out in secret to meet Freda, that meant he knew about what he and Freda were about to do. If he were to say the wrong words, then he would no longer be able to return to the Giblo family.
That was why Benard had snapped back to reality and regained his rationality.
Freda's little trick was bound to fail.
In terms of scheming, Carla could never win against Zayn.
Nevertheless, he was delighted to find out that she had done all those to figure out what was wrong with him.
That meant that she was worried about him.
"Benard!"
"Freda!"
It was the first time the two had met in private, let alone on a dark night like that.
They could not help but feel nervous and shy.
Although Benard had been to almost everywhere with Zayn and had seen countless scenarios, it was the first date of his life.
"Are you cold?" Freda murmured.
"I'm not." Benard then lifted his head to look at Freda, thinking, She's so pretty today. With a little bit of dressing up, she looks like a beautiful girl.
However, those were the words he did not dare to let pass his teeth.
"I'm cold, " Freda grumbled.
"Oh, " Benard answered dumbly. It took a second or two before he recollected his senses. "Then let's hurry into the car. It's warm inside."
Freda was speechless. She thought he would take off his jacket and put it on her. That way, she would be able to lean into his arms and begin their intimate moment. Then, she would be able to pry the information from him.
Yet, Benard was telling her that the inside of the car was warmer.
In the meantime, without much thought into it, Benard opened the door to the front passenger seat.
Left without a choice, Freda stepped into the car. After Benard turned on the heater and adjusted the temperature, he softly asked, "Are you still cold?"
"Not anymore." Now, Freda did not know what she could do to make him talk. The jacket trick had been something Rogan taught her.
"H-Have you had your dinner?" Benard asked.
"Yes." Freda rolled her eyes. This guy's just asking a bunch of silly questions.
"Then, can I know why you've asked me to come out?" Benard's heart raced as he gazed at her.
"Must I have a reason to invite you here?" Freda huffed out.
"No, no, " Benard denied. "I'm just worried if anything has happened to you. I hope I can help you out."
"You're finally talking, " Freda commented as her mood brightened up. In a shy voice, she muttered, "There's nothing, really. It's just that we're living close by now, and since there's nothing going on for my side, I wanted to meet you."
Benard's heart skipped a beat when he heard her words. "You're right. We've never gotten a chance to sit down and have a nice chat by ourselves."
"Now we do." Freda then mustered her courage to look into his eyes. "If you're free, you can come and look for me."
"How could I possibly be free? I'm so busy all the time, " Benard blurted out before he realized what he had said. "Still, I'll come and meet you when I have the time."
